From April 5 to September 17, 2023, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris presents an exhibition dedicated to hair and body hair in the Western world. This original project continues the exploration of fashion and the representation of the body.
“Des Cheveux et des Poils” shows how the hairstyle and arrangement of human hair have been involved for centuries in the construction of appearances. Essential element of the staging of oneself, the arrangement of hair conveys a message, adherence to a fashion, a conviction, a challenge, and can carry a multitude of meanings, such as femininity, manhood or negligence. The exhibition explores through more than 600 works, from the 15th century to the present day, the themes inherent in the history of hairdressing, but also questions related to facial and body hair.
